Chaddlewood’s Man of the Match, left back Rhys.

A heavy pitch greeted the two teams on Saturday and with only 11 fit players, Chaddlewood Miners knew that they were going to have to work hard to get a result against a team just above them in the league table. Both teams started brightly with Chaddlewood going close on a number of occasions, Elliot’s runs down the wing and crosses making several chances. A goal came late in the first half, with a pass from Callen to Elliott who played the ball through to Ryan, who dispatched a shot into the top corner. Half time score 1-0 to Chaddlewood. An injury to Joe T in the second half meant that Chaddlewood had to play with 10 men for 20 minutes, but in a great backs to the wall effort from the whole team they held on to win the match 1-0, and draw level on points with Torpoint. Chaddlewood’s Goalkeeper produced several important saves and man of the match was awarded to Chaddlewood’s left back, Rhys. Manager Matt Payne said “all the lads put in a terrific effort, and played for each other. A great team performance”

Chaddlewood Miners –v- Tamerton Foliot  -  U14s

IMG_0230After a couple of disappointing matches, Chaddlewood faced a tough match in the Devon Cup on Sunday.  Their home match against Tamerton Foliot kicked off at lunch time in perfect conditions, cool but dry and there was a good turn out of spectators to cheer them on.  It was evident from the start of the match that both teams wanted the win, with Chaddlewood having the best chances early on with Josh firing just over the bar and Joel shooting just past the post.  They continued to press forward and opened the scoring with a cracking shot from Josh.  Their lead didn’t last long as Tamerton charged down the field and equalised.  Chaddlewood played some great football linking passes together well and showing great teamwork and determination.  They took the lead again when Lewis and Joel played a great one two, finishing with Joel taking on the defender and scoring.  Again, Tamerton were quick to equalise and went on to score again making the half time score 2-3. It was more of the same in the second half with both teams pushing on and Chaddlewood equalised from a corner played in by Rhys and finished perfectly by Dan.  Both teams then went all out to try to get the win but both defences were able to withstand the attacks.  Full time score was 3-3 so the game headed into extra time. under14_keeperWith neither team able to score in extra time, the match was decided on penalties which Chaddlewood won 3-2.  Manager Matthew was delighted with his team’s performance commenting “Well done to all the lads on a great performance and team spirit. To see the commitment and the willingness to work for each other was very pleasing. You deserved the win.  Cracking penalties all round with a special mention to our goal keeper Mitchell for a strong performance during the penalty shoot out and saving 2.”
